Helsinki: Scandic Grand Marina Review

Rustic charm close to the water

Built into an old warehouse and located in Helsinki’s historic shipping area, Scandic Grand Marina is one large hotel. Located just across the road from the water and in walking distance to the city centre and shopping precincts, you have everything you need at your fingertips. The local markets and ferry wharves are really close by so you don’t have to stray too far from the comforts of your hotel room.

The rooms here are very spacious with extra chairs and desk to sit at. There’s wardrobe space to hang large jackets and store suitcases to keep them out of the way. The bathroom is big and spacious too but the facilities aren’t as nice as those in the Glo Art Hotel. The buffet breakfast was average and nothing too special but it is included so make the most of it.

Staff here are very helpful and provide maps of Helsinki, directions and restaurant recommendations. You’ll get free WiFi in your room, just ask reception for the password when you check in.

The hotel gives off a fancy vibe with large lifts, a bar and an ice machine in the halls. It’s located in the same area as some of the most important political buildings and meeting spaces in the city so there are lots of people in suits walking around. The bar in the lobby is often busy so keep your eye out for important people sneaking a drink!

Overall the hotel made for a relaxing, spacious and very comfortable stay that was close to everything. We didn’t need to use public transport to get around which makes getting around a lot cheaper. Just be careful walking around in the snow can get pretty dangerous (I may or may not have fallen in the snow).

I give Scandic Grand Marina four stars.
