If you’re like me and you can’t stand plane food, don’t fret! I’ve learnt to deal with it and you can too. Most of the meals on the plane are gross. Let’s face it, it’s just as bad as hospital food. But we can’t all afford to upgrade to business class so here’s how you can survive plane food in economy class:
Drinking more water can help you feel fuller and most of the time dehydration is mistaken for hunger. Flying dehydrates the body faster than normal so keep those fluids up! You might find you don’t need to eat as much as you thought, especially on shorter flights.
Eat before your flight
If you have a shorter flight, eat before it and pack your own snacks. This way you’ll only eat the food you actually like. I suggest getting as many vegetables and fruits in your meal before you board because you won’t be able to take those through customs.
If you’re going on a long haul flight and you can’t eat before it, it’s bit harder to manage. If you can, bring extra water and snacks. That way you don’t have to rely on the food they give you. I find that the fruit, the bread, the salads and the snacks that you get given in-flight aren’t too bad. It’s the main meal I find hard to stomach, usually the smell puts me off. Try picking at the snacks and sides if they aren’t too horrible.
Alternatively you can try ordering a vegetarian meal to avoid the set menu. You’ll find they’re not as awful as the usual mix of rice and what-looks-like-meat.
