Nothing special but beautiful location
Despite being located a fair distance from the main JR train station, the hotel is set in a serene spot near the Kamo River which is especially beautiful when lined with blooming cherry blossoms. Our hotel window faced the canals which lead to Gion which made waking up each morning very special. The hotel is located in walking distance from major shopping districts, the Gion corner and metro train stations.

The rooms were small, but average when compared to the Japanese standard. The bathroom was very squishy and actually resembled a cruise ship bathroom. Buffet breakfast was included with our stay and severed western and Japanese food. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating too.
Overall, I think the hotel is great value for money as it’s quite easy to get around on foot and the views of the cherry blossom-lined Kamo River were stunning.
I give Hotel Sunroute Kyoto three stars.
