Christchurch: Country Glen Lodge Review

Comfortable and spacious in a great location

Holidaying in Christchurch over NYE meant hotels were overpriced and motels were almost completely booked out. Hiring a car in Christchurch, we needed a place to stay that had free on-site parking and a good location. Country Glen Lodge offered just that.

When booking the accommodation, I sent a note to the owners regarding our late arrival and they replied within five minutes, explaining their late check-in procedure which was incredibly helpful and easy to follow.

If you look at Christchurch city centre as a rectangular grid, the lodge is located on the northern main road. Its location made it really easy to venture in to the city centre on foot and leave on major day trips by car. There were plenty of restaurants, bars, pubs, supermarkets and petrol stations close by as well.

The rooms were incredibly spacious and included a balcony. The kitchenette and dining table made it easy to have breakfast in the room before embarking on a really early day trip in the car. The bathroom was very large too. The lounge suite was well fitted out and the wardrobe offered enough space to store our suitcases, not that we needed any extra space of course.

Each morning staff cleaned the room, made the bed and replaced used towels and soaps in the bathroom. It was almost like staying in a hotel!

Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the lodge and would definitely go back. If you’re happy to forgo the luxuries of a hotel and you’re planning on venturing out of the city centre, which I’d highly recommend, then it’s perfect!

I give Country Glen Lodge four stars.
