Tokyo: Hotel Monterey Akasaka Review

Comfortable room in a good location

We booked six nights at Hotel Monterey Akasaka at a discounted rate which was pretty fortunate as we don’t normally stay in such classy hotels. The hotel is located close to Akasaka-mitsuke station which makes it easy to catch a train anywhere. Popular attractions like Ueno Park and the Imperial Palace are on the same train line but you’ll have to change trains for others. The hotel is also located close to the popular Ninja Akasaka restaurant, shopping centres and other restaurants.

The room we stayed in was small but well sized compared to the Japanese standard. The bathroom was quite large and included a bathtub. The room was comfortable enough for us, but I don’t think it would be worth full price.

Staff are lovely and you can purchase day passes for the metro lines from here which makes it easy if you’re planning on exploring the city as the JR pass doesn’t cover much of it. It’s also a lot easier and cheaper than having to use the machines at the station each trip.

If you prefer to avoid catching metro trains to get around the city and you’d rather be in among the action, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel. The rooms are quite pricey and its location is a little out of the way.

I give Hotel Monterey Akasaka three stars.
