Luxury in the bush and by the coast
When David and I began planning a getaway to Port Stephens for a night in winter, we were looking for somewhere nice, warm and a little different to stay. We decided to settle on Wanderers Retreat and we’re so glad we did!

Wanderers Retreat has a number of cottages including a beach spa house and cottage, an eco spa cottage and tree houses. We chose to go with the tree house because we’re still children at heart and we had a great experience at similar style accommodation in Sweden.
There are three luxury tree houses which are all aimed at couples. The tree houses have BBQ facilities, air conditioning, undercover parking, a private deck, a kitchenette, television, and best of all, a private double spa. Included in the reservation are robes, chocolates, complimentary sparkling wine and a carafe of port.

Secluded in the bush, the tree house is quite large. It’s more like a cabin on stilts than a tree house but it’s a luxury cabin nonetheless. Our favourite feature was the spa bath which we filled with bubbles provided. We kept our eyes peeled for koalas in the gum trees around us but the only visitors we had were possums. Check in is by 5pm but you can arrange for a later arrival and check out is midday which is great if you like to enjoy a sleep in!

Overall, I give Wanderers Retreat tree house four stars.
Could you spend the night in a tree house? Let me know in the comments below!
