A quaint cottage in a picturesque location
The converted shed sits atop a crest, surrounded by 50-acres of picturesque farmland and bush. The cottage makes for a cute weekend getaway for two.
The quaint cottage is located between Kangaroo Valley and Berry on the New South Wales South Coast in a town called Woodhill. Situated behind the main farm house, the cottage is completely self-contained and connected to a water tank, gas and electricity. But don’t expect to get phone service here – it’s completely off the grid.

The owners are happy for you to wander their property, as long as you close the gates behind you so none of the animals escape. We explored just some of the 50-acre property and came across echidnas and snakes including a five-metre long diamond python. The property is shared with the owner’s horses who are quite friendly and will often come up to the cottage to say hello. During our weekend stay the owners were away, so it really was a peaceful and tranquil experience. Being here felt like we were the only two people in Australia.

Towels, sheets and blankets were provided although sheets are usually an extra fee so check with the owners before you leave home in case you need to bring your own. The kitchen includes a gas stove and oven, fridge and a microwave. There’s also a small outdoor barbecue for use.
If you don’t like the idea of having to cook your own meals, Berry is only a ten-minute drive down the road where the main street is lined with cafes and restaurants. Kangaroo Valley is a 30-minute drive in the opposite direction but there are less restaurants and cafes to choose from.
The cottage is also completely fenced off and is dog-friendly so four-legged furry friends are more than welcome. Dogs are allowed inside the cottage itself, but not in the bedroom. There are water and food bowls, as well as a bed, provided.
Overall it’s the location that makes Mountain Cottage such a beautiful place to stay.
I give Mountain Cottage four stars.
